La Femme is a representation of the human figure embodied by the photographic process. Photo based artist Michale Payeur works predominantly with black and white imagery printed on large opaque sheets of vellum and canvas.
In six suites Payeur creates a fine oscillatory balance between the construction and de-construction of the human form. He adds elements of digital grain, cubist structures, graphical accompaniments and experiments with long exposures, disintegrating the original figure. Payeur”s choice of the use of vellum adds to the abstraction of the figure. These photographic works transcend the content of the image.
These life size forms are women, mainly dancers who stand on their own, seemingly defying gravity. Payeur has extinguished any visual representation of a time and place within the background. These women are placed against a white background, black background, or a backyard swimming pool where the water further abstracts the assimilated form.
