Liz Pead‘s bold exhibition of large-scale works titled Breaking the Ice has garnered a warm reception in Saskatchewan, where it is showing at the Estevan Art Gallery.
In the artist statement for this exhibition, Pead writes: “Gone are the days of the pristine wilds that the Group of Seven painted; if they only ever existed in our collective cultural memory. I’m haunted by the images of Ed Burtynsky, Douglas Coupland and others depicting the changing landscapes of industrial encroachment and urban sprawl.”
Breaking the Ice is on view January 16 – February 28, 2014 at the Estevan Art Gallery. More images of the exhibit available here.
