Amanda McCavour

Amanda McCavour creates intricate drawings out of thread.  The artist recalls images and objects from her past and renders them using her unique thread-drawing technique. The resulting works are tenuous, transparent, but strong in their material makeup. These semi-opaque images give the impression of a trace or a memory. Just like a memory, they are not complete but their impressions are striking and affective. McCavour appreciates thread as both line and sculptural material.  Her recent series uses the idea of accumulation as its starting point, the action of a single line begetting an image and the accumulation of images becoming a mass, a presence. While this mass has strength in numbers, the individual elements of McCavour’s installations have a vulnerability to them. Like a wave of nostalgia, these installations impact the viewer destabilizing their sense of perception, touch and temporality.
