Antonio Gomez-Palacio sees vertigo not as a fear of heights but rather a fear of oneself in acknowledging the desire to jump. In this vein, these pieces are assembled with two ideas: the labyrinth and the partial concealment of it. The labyrinth is a metaphor of an inward looking journey towards both self-destruction (in a negative sense) and self-discovery (in the positive). The labyrinth in these boxes is partially covered by a smooth skin. It”s concealment, with brief moments of revelation through holes and cracks incites feelings of seduction. Thus each box, while inciting you to pick it up and peek into the cracks, plays with your desire for the exploration of an interior world. Hence the vertigo.
