For the month of May, the streets of Toronto will overflow with people attending the photography festival CONTACT. In the lead-up to the festival we’ll be featuring journal entries from a couple exhibiting groups, providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their preparations. Once the festival itself takes places, a feature article will be written for the website, tying together the various groups plus the festival as a whole. Call for Entries: “Dreams”

Since its creation in 2002, the Love Show has worked to raise awareness about the privilege that surrounds us and our responsibility to support others. Each year, proceeds from the show are used to support community-based organizations that combat violence and encourage self esteem. Each of us has infinite abilities of kindness and love. This year, we support Workman Arts, a not-for-profit professional arts company working in partnership with and located in the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Artist participants will submit pieces that reflect on the theme of ‘Dreams’, not to exceed 8″ x 8″ x 8″ (including any supports or framing devices). Pieces must be ready to hang. Pieces will be sold for $75 each with the proceeds going to Workman Arts. To enter works in the show, artists will pay a $10 submission fee* per piece and receive a tax receipt for $75 for each piece sold.

*If you’re a student, submitting to the Love Show is free (valid current student ID required).

Deadline: Thursday, October 22, 2009

Lonsdale Gallery is entering its fifteenth year in Toronto. Over this time Lonsdale has fostered the careers of many great artists and worked to achieve its mandate to exhibit works that challenge interpretation and elicit reaction: contemporary painting, sculpture, experimental photography and installation.

A great legacy of a gallery is its printed materials: artist catalogues, invitations and press releases. To celebrate our many years of production, and to build on our past, Lonsdale has worked with artists Liz Pead and Tyler Vipond to create /Lonsdale Redux/, an installation built from the printed materials of the gallery
