An Imperfect Order – runs February 25-March 22, 2009- opening reception Sunday, March 1st from 1-4pm

The order society attempts to impose onto nature often proves to be imperfect. What people often perceive to be imperfection (chaos) in nature may in fact be a complex type of order.

Jim Reid and Peggy Taylor Reid often draw inspiration from the same rural Ontario landscape. Though they both draw inspiration from the same setting, their work is completely unique in style and concept. This exhibition shows the different interpretations of “ferals” by each artist.

The Art of Dissent

November 2 – 16, 2008

Cologne artist Willy Fick created symbolic paintings during the darkest times of Hitler’s regime — works that gave voice to feelings the Nazis wished suppressed. Incredibly, in spite of the Nazis, fire and bombing, archival photographs and several original works remain as witness, provoking thought and dialogue about the role art plays in society.

Contemporary responses by Holocaust survivors and student artists, diverse in age and culture, are included as signage and original art.

Pedie Wolfond Exhibition “Radiant Light” September 25- October 19, 2008

Pedie Wolfond makes paintings that pulsate with light. Her colours become ignited through contrast with neutrals causing the paintings to blaze or glow depending on subtle structuring within the composition.

The Abstract Expressionist teacher Hans Hoffman noted ‘Light makes color in nature but, colour makes light in painting’. Wolfond’s work epitomizes this observation and then appends a transcendental element. In this she diverges from orthodox Abstract Expressionism, which stressed the objectivity of painting. Wolfond invites subjectivity, presenting the visual circumstances to initiate a mystical realization.

Jon Krause & Edel Rodriguez: Hidden Secrets

August 16 – September 7, 2008

Opening Reception: Saturday August 14, 1 – 4 pm

Hidden Secrets, a series of works from artists Jon Krause and Edel Rodriguez, speaks to the lives we live through narrative and metaphor. Drawing from their graphic backgrounds, Krause and Rodriguez challenge their viewers with imagery depicting tales of the human experience. These works point out the eccentricities of life.

Edel Rodriguez and Jon Krause see Hidden Secrets as a metaphor of an inward journey towards conceptual illustrations and ideology. Connected by their interests in popular culture and propaganda posters, these artists use a strong visual language to create their own imaginary constructions — to provoke thought and awareness amongst their audiences.

The Tales We Tell Exhibition.. March 29-April 27 2008

Dreams, desires, direction – five artists selected to play upon and indulge us. This show displays an intimate look at the depths and sensitivities of their imaginations. Lonsdale Gallery presents an exhibition exploring the idea that each individual carries within themselves a vast and powerful force which one is often unaware of, constructing and destructing our own worlds in the realms of our mind. We use the element of imagination to cope with everyday life in times of rapture, anticipation, frustration, sadness and hope. The artists: Ray Caesar, Erin and Kelly Carty, Gretchen Sankey, Xiaoqing Ding and Martin Wittfooth intrigue us with surreal concepts connecting us to familiar elements.
