As the lead up to Art Toronto begins, the city’s commercial galleries have begun the season with a bang by presenting strong solo exhibitions by both local and internationally acclaimed artists.
We couldn’t list every great show in the city, but here are a sampling of exhibitions we recommend visiting across town.
Joan Kaufman: Unravelling Still
410 Spadina Road
September 6 – October 14, 2012
In a new photographic series “Unravelling Still”, Kaufman continues her exploration of the human figure in motion. By capturing and deconstructing aspects of movement, she explores the ambiguous space within a gesture – the physical and psychological space where a moment of change is in flux. With an interest in the way a sudden monumental event can change a certain trajectory, the works in this series halt action at the point where the outcome is uncertain and without conclusion.
